Kirill Basalaev’s works rely on the term „ruinization” — adoption of the urban environment as the constantly crumbling structure, where a person is forced to endlessly support life in it. By focusing on the theme of the relationship between a man and the city and their mutual influence Basalaev is able to use all kinds of construction materials, rethink the culture of graffiti and activities of housing
services. His works take traces of failure and decline of the urban environment out of megalopolis context. Chips, cracks, factures – that is how space enters into a dialogue, revealing layers, showing the „guts” an demonstrating a person where is his place is. For Basalaev city acts as a hostile environment, the monster of total control, structure that restricts freedom.
